SEVERAL boats headed out from Staffin slip in an impressive flotilla on Saturday morning in the 2024 angling competition.
More than 20 competitors, of all ages, enjoyed flat, calm waters as the contest finally got the go ahead after a challenging summer of weather. The boats were out for three hours, with a minke whale spotted near Kilt Rock, but the fishing catches were not abundant.

The winner of the heaviest fish with a lythe weighing more than 6lb was Neilly Nicolson, Garafad. The most unusual catch of the day was two cod which were hooked by Charlie Matheson, Brogaig.
And the young angling competition was won by Digg's Alfie MacDonald with a hefty lythe. The sum of £329.15 was raised on the day through entry fees and the raffle.

The event proceeds will go towards Sgoil Stafainn Parent Council. Staffin Community Trust hopes to hold another angling contest on Saturday August 17, weather permitting, with funds to be raised for Fèis Thròndairnis.
