WORK on building seven new business units at Staffin Harbour for rent gets underway next week, with applications are now welcomed for their rental in 2025.
The ambitious project is a key part of the development with the units to be sited on the new onshore area which was constructed by Staffin Community Trust (SCT) earlier this year.
SCT recently purchased the harbour from Highland Council and Scottish Ministers.
Ross-shire contractor MH Steel – which has an excellent record of constructing large agricultural buildings in Skye – will erect the new harbour buildings. The water, electric and drainage services will be installed after the New Year.
Staffin lacks suitable business premises and the new modern and environmentally friendly storage and business units will help meet that demand. This will encourage local businesses or social enterprises to start up or grow, and create new jobs and training opportunities, while strengthening resilience in Skye and Lochalsh’s most economically fragile community.

Four of the harbour units are 40m2 in size, and three are bigger, at 60m2. The exterior of the units will be red, blue, green and grey – as specified by planning - and will bring a splash of colour to the harbour, which looks across to Wester Ross and the Western Isles.
The £300,000 harbour units project is being supported by the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, the Islands Programme, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Community Regeneration Fund.
Application forms and further information on the harbour units can be requested by e-mailing staffinharbourmanager@gmail.com or staffin.ldo@gmail.com
The deadline for applications is Friday, December 20.
