THE DEADLINE for lodging applications to rent the seven new Staffin Harbour units is a week today, as the site works take shape.

The community-owned harbour opened the process for applying last month and interested individuals, groups, or businesses have until midnight on Friday December 20 to submit their applications.

It comes as Staffin Community Trust's (SCT) busy contractors, the Ross-shire based MH Steel, have now erected the new premises on the onshore hardstanding area and hope to be off site next week. The four-man team have been working 12-hour days, with support from harbour manager Lachie Gillies and volunteer members of the steering group. The main doors have also been installed by Tain contactor Ian Vass, with the personnel doors scheduled to arrive from Welsh supplier Agri-Fabs next week.

Further groundworks are still required on site in 2025, with SCT hopeful that tenants will be in a position to move into the units next spring.

Four of the harbour units are 40m2 in size, and three are bigger, at 60m2. The exterior of the units is red, blue, green and grey – as specified by the local authority's planning service - and will bring a splash of colour to the harbour, which looks across to Wester Ross and the Western Isles.

The £300,000 harbour units project is being supported by the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, the Islands Programme, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Community Regeneration Fund.
