Staffin Community Trust (SCT) is seeking to appoint a new local development officer with the recruitment process now underway.
This is a challenging and highly rewarding job in Staffin, which has a rich history, stretching back almost 100 years, of community-led development.
The Taobh Sear is a fiercely determined and ambitious community that doesn't wait for things to happen and the successful candidate will be joining Skye’s very first development trust which is at an exciting stage in its history, having made significant strides forward in recent years. The successful candidate will be joining a small but capable and committed staff team with a supportive board of SCT directors who all live locally.
SCT is now a significant community landlord in north east Skye and presently owns 10 business premises, a health centre, 2 family houses and a former GP clinic at three different locations in the community, namely Staffin Harbour, Taighean a’ Chaiseil and the Nurse’s Cottage.
SCT has also built Skye’s very first viewing platform at Lealt Gorge and car parking, plus attractive interpretation and footpaths and as well as the acclaimed Sùil nam Brà (Crofters’ Memorial) at Kilt Rock.
The two main projects the LDO is expected to progress upon appointment are the remaining four phases of the Staffin Harbour Development and the affordable housing project at the Staffin Nurse Cottage site.
SCT is a charity and its development officer post is partially supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
