JOB applications for the very first Staffin Harbour Manager are now being sought, as the community trust nears the purchase of the current slipway and adjacent area.
Thanks to the support of the Scottish Land Fund, Staffin Community Trust is seeking to recruit the best candidate on an initial two-year contract.

This is a crucial and historic appointment for the community with SCT looking for a manager of the facility as it is now – and once it is developed into a fully fit-for-purpose and flexible modern harbour, which can serve Staffin for generations to come.

It comes as works on providing an electricity connection to the harbour near completion after a 1-km underground power line was installed over the last few weeks, and ahead of separate works getting underway at Lealt Quarry.

SCT is buying the slipway and shoreside area from the Highland Council and Scottish Ministers and would like to appoint a manager prior to community ownership being confirmed.

For the job description including salary details please email staffin.do@gmail.com or call or visit the office on 01470 562 464 for an informal discussion. CVs should be submitted no later than Friday, November 24.

The advert is below and will be shared to the local shops, Post Office and Columba 1400m as well as being advertised in the West Highland Free Press.

Edinbane-based contractor Craik & MacRae commence work on the electricity line to the slipway through the Garafad common grazing from the Columba 1400 Centre in September.

Providing power to the harbour is part of the project’s crucial Enabling Works and follows the upgraded work on the slipway road, which was completed by contractor Eyre Plant Ltd last year.

The electrical project is costing a total of £194,000, with support from the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund and the Fisheries Harbours Assistance. The work included delicately opening up a section of the historic Garafad dyke and reinstating a it afterwards, which was expertly carried out by local tradesmen Brian Irving.

SCT would like to thank the Garafad township, Columba 1400 and the Scottish Government’s Rural Payments Inspections Directorate for supporting the power works.
