STAFFIN Gym is celebrating a special milestone next month – its first birthday – and is stepping up its promotional efforts to attract locals and holidaymakers to get a sweat on.
The gym has become the 13th business to join the growing online directory aimed at showcasing the wide range of businesses in Staffin following a highly successful 12 months.

Production company makes welcome boost to SCT coffers
A PRODUCTION company which regularly promotes the Taobh Sear’s unique scenery has made a donation to Staffin Community Trust following a recent shoot. 
Edinburgh-based LS Productions, which is the UK’s largest stills and motion service, has donated £100 towards SCT’s project work.

LS is a regular visitor to Staffin and the Storr and Quiraing feature heavily in its website.The company works on big advertising and filing campaigns for a range of companies and brands and was recently at Loch Mealt, Ellishadder, which is near the Kilt Rock.

A FASCINATING piece of Staffin’s wartime history has been uncovered –  instructions on what to do in the event of an “enemy invasion”.
The memo, labelled “Secret & Urgent”, was sent by a police chief to the Staffin Exchange – in May 1944 as the Second World War raged. Positive feedback from local people to Storr Project progress
THERE was an encouraging local response to a Staffin Community Trust’s (SCT) consultation event which outlined the progress with the Old Man of Storr Project.
Around 30 people attended a drop-in event on November 5 – and also called in to the SCT office during the week afterwards, to view a summary of the options appraisal work carried out so far and a proposed site layout at the Highland Council-owned site at the Storr, which attracts thousands of people each year.

STAFFIN’S Skye Pie Cafe embarks on a keenly anticipated winter venture tonight (4.11.16) – homemade takeaway pizzas. 
The cafe at Glenview, which has been hugely popular since opening in 2015 as the island’s first dedicated pie eatery, closed for the season last month.

Deadline looms for expressions of interest in potential Staffin business space
FRESH expressions of interest in a potential business/storage or arts and crafts space at a proposed Staffin housing development are being invited.
Staffin Community Trust announced last month that it had signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association and the Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust to progress plans for a six-affordable house development at a site on the Stenscholl Common Grazing.

STAFFIN residents are invited to attend a drop-in community event this weekend about the Old Man of Storr.
Staffin Community Trust (SCT) secured funding earlier this year to carry out an Options Appraisal into Highland Council-owned land at the Storr. A consortium led by Hazel Allen of Dingwall-based Athena Solutions, Richard Heggie of Urban Animation and Sam Foster Architects, were awarded the contract to carry out the work and report back to SCT.

A LONG-RUNNING and hugely successful Staffin sale of work – which has raised a staggering amount of money for a cancer charity over the years – will take place early next month.

STAFFIN Community Trust (SCT) has welcomed fresh proposals for an organic fish processing development which could create significant employment opportunities and much-needed infrastructure investment.

A GROUP of talented Trotternish youngsters are getting ready to set sail across the Minch to take part in the Royal National Mòd.
